Mayor meets Health Chief over plans to cut opening hours at South Tyrone Hospital
25/01/2012
The Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council has met the Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust over proposals to reduce the opening hours at South Tyrone Hospital. Cllr Kenneth Reid stressed the importance of not reducing the service of Minor Injuries at the Dungannon Hospital which is currently part of a review. The Mayor said the Minor Injuries Unit at South Tyrone Hospital is well used and figures show it is the busiest in the Southern Area supporting a large number of people in this area. Continued Cllr Reid: "Dungannon Borough Council has, along with the South Tyrone Hospital Forum, recently submitted a strong case for the continued service from 9.00am - 9.00pm fro minor injuries and will continue lobbying to ensure this remains for the people of the Borough. "It is important for the public to note that the service is available from 9am - 9pm and provides for minor injuries for people over five years for minor cuts, sprains, minor bone injuries, bites, stings, minor burns, minor eye problems." As Exclusively reported in the Courier last November, it is proposed to cut the current service by two hours in the evening. Local people are encouraged to respond to the review at www.southerntrust.hscni.net or by phoning . Source: Tyrone Courier |
