Figures show more people out of work in Mid Ulster

The fist unemployment figures released in 2012 make grim reading for Mid Ulster residents with the news that there was a slight increase in the number of people out of work in the area last month. According to the latest figures released by the Department of Trade, Enterprise and Investment, across the combined district council areas of Armagh, Cookstown, Dungannon and Magherfelt the number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance increased by almost 5 per cent, bringing the total jobless figure last month to 5,626. Magherafelt District Council area saw the biggest jump (up 2.7 per cent) while both Armagh and Dungannon saw their increase by 0.6 per cent. In Cookstown unemployment rose by one per cent. Overall in Northern Ireland, the seasonally adjusted number of people claiming unemployment related benefits stood at 60,700 in December 2011 - up 100 (0.2 per cent) from the revised figure for the previous month.
